Opportunity
As the designer and animator, my goal was to capture the spirit of jazz and translate it into a visual experience that would resonate with a new generation of festivalgoers. I developed the creative concept, visual language, and motion design, creating an animation that felt as expressive, energetic, and welcoming as the music itself!
Goal
The Savannah Jazz Festival is a multi-day celebration of jazz, that. transforms Forsyth Park into a vibrant community of music and culture! However, despite its rich legacy, jazz is often misunderstood by younger audiences, often seen as old-fashioned or slow. I aim to break those stereotypes and highlight the genre’s energy and joy!
process
To capture the spirit of the festival, I gathered visual inspiration from Forsyth Park and Savannah and used word maps to identify themes to guide the visuals. These early explorations became the foundation for the style frames and final animation. With the music as my guide, I created a hand-drawn storyboard to explore pacing and transitions before developing style frames and bringing the final animation to life.
Outcome
The final animation transforms jazz into a vibrant visual experience, capturing the excitement I felt attending my first Savannah Jazz Festival! The piece turns the rhythm and spontaneity of jazz into a visual celebration, building anticipation for the event for both longtime fans while inviting new audiences to join the celebration.
